Bernie in India - Back in Mumbai
A further update from India now that Bernie is back in Mumbai!
Wednesday pm. Went out for dinner.
John Brady was leading the way to the restaurant but we got lost. It till us half an hour to find it and five minutes to walk back to the hotel. Excel lent meal and unbelievably cheap.
Thursday in Mumbai.
Day one of the conference. Speeches by Ian Swales, the guest of honour no less!! , members of the NEPIC team and two of our party. I am in hallowed company with Professors and Doctors but they are all down to earth people who like a drink and laugh.
It has been a good day. I have had very positive discussions with a number of people all of whom have made a commitment to work to develop a relationship. Some of the potential could be very exciting for us. Off for drinks a dinner. Hope to have an early night to catch up with some sleep.

Wednesday in India - Gujurat to Mumbai
Bernie's latest update from yesterday:
Wednesday morning in Jugarat 250 miles north of Mumbai. Temp around 30 plus. Two days of travelling. Lost track of how many companies we've been to. Have to say Indian hospitality is second to none. I have food and flowers coming out of my ears. We have Ian Swales MP with us he is being treated like royalty. Apart from my objectives of looking for busness opportunities Have learnt a lot of how the local communities are working to build infrastructure and support for themselves led by the successes that their industries are having at the moment. Problem is there is still too much to do. Four hour train journey back to Mumbai, took our lives in our hands in the taxi from the station. Two meetings this afternoon. Out for a meal (Indian of course) with some of the party . Bed time now, conference starts tomorrow and must be ready for exhibiting.

Bernie's report from India
Bernie has emailed this over today! It is for the NEPIC blog but thought it interesting to share here!
I am aware of the economic growth in India and I have come to explore the business opportunities that might be available to us. We have visited quite a few companies in Gujarat and I am taken aback by the shear scale of the development taking place. The hospitality of of everybody I have met has been overwhelming and humbling. I have no doubt there are opportunities for relationships and business, you just need to go and find them. I can see a great pride in India for the work they are doing to improve the life of their people and their place in the world. They still have a lot to do to improve the living standards of the people in the small towns and villages and it will take a long time but the important thing is that they are doing it and we can help by bring our expertise to their table. Travelling in India has been an experience in itself. The trains are busy but comfortable but the roads are crazy; there are rules but but nobody follows them ..!!

Johnson Partners in India
Bernie is currently visiting India. where he is involved in the NEPIC market visit. I have asked him to try and update the blog but the programme is jam packed with meetings and events!
An article from the Times of India explains the background of the trip here:
The trip is mainly based in Mumbai but the early part of the trip will be in Gujarat, North of the City, where the delegates will be meeting businesses in the area. The latter part of the week will be at the 6th Annual Indian Chemical Industry Outlook Conference in Mumbai. The trips is supported by UKTI and hopes to encourage trade between UK based companies and Indian businesses.
